A short walk from Independence Hall, City Tavern was a political and social meeting place for the members of the Continental Congress.  Many of America’s Founding Fathers partook of food and drink at its tables.  George Washington briefly used it as his headquarters, and he enjoyed a grand banquet there on his way to his inauguration. 

Local author and food historian Becky Libourel Diamond will present highlights from her newest book, City Tavern: The Founding Table – Colonial Dining, Revolutionary History, and the Restaurant at the Center of It All.  She will describe the ins and outs of the 18th century tavern and the kinds of foods and beverages that were offered. Her book will be available for sale.
