Yardley Borough Hall Tour

Yardley Borough Hall Tour

borough hall circa 1920

Old, New - Outside, Inside

Saturday, April 25 • 2 p.m.
Meet at the Old Library by Lake Afton
46 West Afton Avenue, Yardley

Yardley’s first municipal building still stands just east of today’s Borough Hall, so there aren’t miles to cover on this walking tour, but there are lots of discoveries to make and stories to tell.

Join Yardley Borough’s new mayor Caroline Thompson and Susan Taylor to find out about Borough government, its buildings, and its operations. You’ll be surprised at how many things have gone on here.

In 1896, a modest wood frame building was erected to serve the needs of the new Borough government  (yes, it had a jail), but, just two decades later , a stately brick structure arose on South Main Street. It could and did accommodate many functions, including being the Fire Company #1 station.

Caroline Thompson will share how the Borough operates today while guiding walkers inside the Hall, including Council chambers, the police station (yes, it  has a “lock up”), and seldom seen spaces.

Reservations are needed for this walk.  Please make yours at either info@yardleyhistory.org or 215-208-1154.  A $10 per person donation will be appreciated.
