The railroad line running through Yardley was completed in 1876 just in time to carry visitors to the Centennial Exposition in Philadelphia. Its opening was a much- anticipated triumph.
It brought a boom of housing and business, which led to the incorporation of the Borough in 1895. Even the town’s name was changed from Yardleyville to Yardley because of confusion with the railroad’s Yardville, NJ station.
Railroad enthusiast Dean Dickson will share a PowerPoint presentation about the evolution of railroad service in Yardley, including the details about accessory facilities that were in the town and how one old structure was allowed to remain.
Transportation history is a big part of our town’s history. Join us to learn about the details. –
