The fascinating story of how Quakers changed from being enslavers to actively opposing slavery, participating in the Underground Railroad, and even becoming leaders in the abolition movement will be shared by author/historian Pat Mervine.

While researching their book, “Slavery, Friends, and Freedom in Bucks County,”  Pat Mervine and co-author Joe Coleman delved deep into the African American journey in Southeastern Pennsylvania.   Focusing on the period from the 1600s to the post- Civil War era , they uncovered information about freedom seekers, abolitionists,  and participants in the Underground Railroad.   

This presentation will deal with the greater story, with particular emphasis on the Quakers in Bucks County – what caused their mind shift and how they took action.
