Cold Spring Bleachery Walking Tour

Yardley's Industrial Past Revealed
Sunday, April 28 • 2 p.m.
Old Library by Lake Afton
46 West Afton Avenue, Yardley
Although it is hard to imagine today, Yardley was once home to an expansive industry that employed 150 people – the Cold Spring Bleachery. The 28-acre property accommodated many buildings, tanks, and two reservoirs. Huge bolts of “gray” cloth were brought to the Bleachery for cleaning and finishing, then shipped to manufacturers to be made into consumer goods, such as men’s dress shirts.
During a 1-1/2 mile roundtrip walking tour, Susan Taylor will reveal the remaining vestiges of the Bleachery and the company’s astonishing stories. She also will tell about the businesses that followed it and the property’s eventual transformation into Yardley Walk.
When the walkers return to the Old Library, they can view a collection of fabrics and old photos of the area that they just visited.
