Quintessential Yardley Art

"Quintessential Yardley" Art Show and Silent Auction

East Afton Avenue by Janet H. Austin
East Afton Avenue by Janet H. Austin

A one-time opportunity

Saturday and Sunday, March 25 and 26 • 1 to 5 p.m.
Old Library by Lake Afton
46 West Afton Avenue, Yardley

Since the 1960’s and 70’s, works by local artists and maps have hung on the walls of the Cadwallader Law Offices in the heart of downtown Yardley. They were collected by T. Sidney Cadwallader and reflected his family’s pride in the community in which they were actively involved.

This winter, fifteen artworks and two large aerial maps were taken down from the office walls. Continuing the family’s tradition, they were contributed to the Yardley Historical Association to support its preservation efforts.

These unique and nearly antique pieces will be on display and up for silent auction on March 25 and 26.

All of the art depicts scenes in downtown Yardley – South and North Main Streets, Canal Street, and East Afton Avenue. Many illustrate buildings and details that no longer can be seen. Among the artists represented are Janet H. Austin, Harriet Ermentrout, John Foster, Aaron G. Fryer, Peggy Dowdell Horn, Maurice Hugo, and Joanna Krasnansky.

The two large aerial maps were photographed in 1948 and 1950 and show the Delaware River flowing by Yardley Borough and Lower Makefield Township.

The show and silent auction are a truly unique opportunity to experience Yardley’s past in the art and maps collected by one of Yardley’s foremost families. The tradition of cherishing the town can be continued by acquiring one of these pieces and giving it a new wall on which to hang, while also supporting the preservation and maintenance of Yardley’s jewel, the Old Library by Lake Afton.

See you at the Show.
